These range from developing skills, to gaining work experience, to building a powerful network. Volunteering may be an outlet for natural talents, a pilot-test for a new career, or simply a handy way to help others. This helping others without expecting gain is a great way to develop one’s self-esteem.
  3. Be a Friend of Maithri
Friends of Maithri: If for any reason, one cannot become a volunteer, he can still support suicide-prevention activities in Kerala by becoming a Friend of Maithri. The Friends of Maithri can help the cause by spreading word about the organization, organizing awareness programmes on suicide prevention, helping in mobilizing resources etc. In the past, numerous organizations and individuals have helped Maithri in many ways. They have organized training sessions and awareness programmes, given us their platforms to introduce Maithri, sponsored events, given advertisements, mobilized resources etc. The friends of Maithri now consists of a large number of common people, professionals from the media, health services, engineering, industrial and commercial organizations etc. Anyone with a burning passion to help the distressed can be part of the Friends of Maithri fraternity.
